HOLONIC FIELDS
Human x Machine x Mycelium
An interactive sound and visual art installation piece developed by Rory Friers and Boom Clap Play, opening at this year’s Sonorities Festival in Belfast.
Holonic Fields is a live collaboration between human beings, computer systems and yes, living fungi. Dynamically embodying a deconstructed musical and visual composition.
We’ve used depth and motion sensors to detect up to three participants in a real-time exploration of musical composition. Bodies and movements are dynamically connected to a bespoke array of musical components whilst visually reflected in abstract 3d form in front of you. Live biodata taken from our living fungi samples interact within this holonic system to create an unexpected symphony between human, machine and mycelium, exploring what music, composition and collaboration means with this gestural, augmented, and collaborative approach to creative expression.
This project has been funded by Arts Council NI
A huge thanks to Sonorities Festival and Portview for hosting the project.
